I knew I wanted to be a therapist when I saw several movies with therapist as the main character. I believe change happens when we all work together to help each other. Clients who get the most out of therapy with me are clients with variety of different issues and concerns. Three words that describe my style are cultural competency, empathy and effective listening skills. Something about me that is unique is I have ran several 10K and 5K races and running is a hobby and passion of mine. What influences me to do the work do is striving be the best person I can be and helping others to do the same. I grew up as a Army brat as my Dad was in the Army and he retired after 20 years in the service. I got to see the world and the country and that has shaped my world views.

Abuse (sexual, emotional, physical), Bipolar Spectrum Disorders, Depression, Generalized Anxiety, Personality Disorders, Relationship Issues, Substance & Alcohol Abuse, Trauma

I have 25 years of experience working with adults recovering from childhood trauma. Common causes include addiction, mental health, abuse, neglect, anger, poverty, foster care placement, religious trauma or anything that negatively impact your childhood. You may be experiencing mood disorders, emotional regulation issues, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, perfectionism, or addiction. I addition I work with adults involved in non-traditional relationships such as kink/BDSM, polyamory/open relationships, or experiencing issues related to sexual/gender identity & those in the LGBTQ+ population that want an open minded nonconservative therapist. Therapy is like using a GPS when driving. You are in the driver's seat so to speak and I am like the GPS. I will offer suggestions on which route appears the best to get you to your destination but you are free to choose another route, make a detour, or change the final destination. Let me help get you where you want to be.

I will support you with empathy and understanding. We all come from different walks of life and I find it’s important to meet people where they are. I will take into account your life experiences, background, and personality when developing a treatment plan, collaborating with you to identify your needs and goals, while empowering you to achieve a more satisfying and fulfilled life. I will help you gain insight into your stress, as well as negative thought patterns and habits and help you implement cognitive behavioral skills to change them. I graduated with a master’s degree in counseling from Loyola University Chicago and have nearly 20 years of clinical experience working in a variety of settings, treating clients of all ages who have experienced depression, anxiety, grief, low self worth, relationships issues, poor boundaries, and more. One of my favorite life mantras is a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt: "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent". Thus, I enjoy helping others embrace their power. One of the most impactful ways to do that is a change in thought process. It has such a significant influence on the way we react and the type of emotions we feel. At times, facing life's challenges can be difficult. Fortunately, you do not have to do it alone. I'll walk on the journey with you, co-creating a safe environment that encourages exploration and growth. If you'd like to know if I'd be a good fit on your personal journey, please feel invited to reach out!

ADHD, Depression, Generalized Anxiety, Panic, Relationship Issues

Empowering Others to Live Happier Lives. I am Jennifer Evans, LPC, LMHC. I am a board-certified therapist in multiple states and over 15 years of counseling experience. I am passionate about effecting change and helping work with people to achieve insight in order to gain maximum potential and reach their most desired visions and goals. I know personally and professionally how difficult it is to get here and I am proud of your first step and commitment to change. I know I can be valued support as we work together to reach success, insight, and overcome emotional and psychosocial stressors. A little more about me, I was born and raised in Florida, did my undergraduate at Florida State University, and moved to Virginia to Eastern Virginia Medical School, where I studied clinical counseling and received my Master’s in Art Therapy. As a military spouse, we relocated many times, having to redevelop my career each duty station, which gave me a myriad of experiences with various populations. My passion for treatment is trauma and life experiences that lead us to feel fearful, unsafe, and saddened; sometimes with no explanation as to why we feel the way we do. I work with my client’s in a person-centered format with cognitive-behavioral underpinnings and psychoeducation to not only work through and build a better understanding of ourselves but the experiences and beliefs that built us and ways to endure and build resiliency to better manager those feelings so they are not as overwhelming in the future.
