Much of my career has focused on working with adolescents and young people as they transition into adulthood. In addition, I have experience helping clients coping with depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, addictions, parenting issues, & anger management. Helping clients to identify strategies to reach their goals is my objective. I want clients to work through their unique challenges and learn to manage their stressors to live healthy and productive lives. Furthermore, I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps toward a change. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. I am here to support & empower you in that journey. Open to working with adolescents ages 13 and older.

Hi, my name is Andrea Burgess and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist with 16 years of clinical experience. I began my work in the helping professions as a wilderness guide for incarcerated youth and served in the public sector in foster care and adoptions, juvenile justice, inpatient psychiatric service and emergency services. I absolutely love walking with people who are finding their way through tough times, and I believe it is both a calling and an honor to be able to do so. I work with clients who are struggling with difficult life transitions, relationship problems, parenting stresses, trauma and addictions. While I do believe that you have the answers you seek inside yourself, I am also willing to give my opinion when asked! I utilize my training in neuro-biology, mindfulness and meditation, twelve step recovery, attachment trauma, cognitive behavioral therapy, and relational boundaries to offer education and assist you with processing the particular content that is bringing you to Employee Assistance Services at this time. My approach is gentle and compassionate, as well as direct. My intention is to create a safe space for you to explore the areas of life and challenges that matter most to you. I believe we all have solutions and resilience to meet life's challenges, and as a therapist I am here to support you with uncovering your own strengths, resources, and clarity. Some areas of specialty include anxiety, stress, grief, relationship challenges, chronic health recovery, financial therapy, and making changes in daily habits to support overall wellness. I graduated from Naropa University with a Masters in Dance/Movement Therapy and Somatic Counseling. As a somatic therapist, I support relating to the body as a resource and incredibly useful tool to connect with the body, mind, and nervous system. I offer mindfulness tools that can help with basics such as sleep and stress relief, as well as getting more in touch with what you need at a deeper level moving forward.

I am grateful to be a guide to individuals during difficult life challenges: depression, anxiety, loss, trauma, and relationship issues. I work collaboratively with you to understand and define your current issues and find solutions. We will explore how to build upon strengths and help develop new coping skills to manage life's challenges. My therapeutic approach incorporates several major therapeutic modalities and techniques, including EMDR, Solution-Focused, CBT, DBT, and Imago. I seek to help my clients discover their potential and learn skills and strategies that will help them achieve their goals by empowering them and providing conditions for personal growth. I tailor my particular focus to the needs of the client(s). I believe that every individual possesses the strength and potential to work through life problems and that most issues are developmentally based.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with nearly 20 years of mental health experience in a variety of treatment settings. I currently only provide individual counseling to adult clients. I tend to be a "jump right in"/very direct type of therapist and I mostly use Solution Focused and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) methods in my practice. I enjoy helping clients identify where they are, where they want to be, and how therapy can assist them on their journey. I am a generalist therapist and my primary specialties are working with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, co-dependency tendencies, grief, and life stressors/transitions. As a social worker, I also believe environment and identity are important factors in who we are, what we struggle with, and the opportunities and roadblocks we might face. I seek to be inclusive in my therapeutic approach and respectful of how individual and societal elements affect a person's treatment needs and goals.

I have over 20 years of experience working with all ages from teenagers to seniors. One thing I’ve learned through my experience is there is no shame in reaching out for help when we feel life is going against us. We all need it at some point, and if you realize you need some extra support, it is a healthy sign that you want to improve your life in some way. I follow the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) models to work with my clients to develop different ways of interacting with the world in order to get unstuck. If you are ready to try a different way of managing stress, anxiety, and depression, working as a team we can help you feel more connected to what is important, be present, and do what matters in life.

Just a few words about myself and how I approach the counseling expereince. I do believe it is a personal and very unique experience for each person. Counseling is a deep dive, its an archeological dig, and it is the road to a more balanced and healthy path in life. I believe that it takes courage and bravery to face our issues in life and I am here to help support this journey. I believe my approach reflects my own experience in counseling. I was fortunate enough to have a phenomenal counseling experience and I would like to pass that on to others. I have worked in the field for over 25 years, with all types of people in all types of situations, and I do believe that in the safe space of counseling change can occur and healing happens.
