My specialty is treating clients suffering from depression and anxiety, I am passionate about helping those who suffer from varying mental health issues. I am fully aware of the impact that living with mental health issues can take on an individual’s life. I believe in helping patients regain control in their lives in order to live their best life. Depression comes in many shapes and sizes from severe to high functioning, all forms of depression can be treatable and I believe that by working together we can come up with a treatment plan to help you feel more like yourself again. Often depression and anxiety can go hand in hand, working with clients who have experienced feelings of both depression and anxiety we can determine appropriate coping skills to help manage both. I have also worked with clients who have experienced varying trauma, from childhood trauma including sexual abuse and domestic violence as well PTSD. We are seeing more and more individuals who experience varying level of trauma from bullying at school, or in the workplace, as well as spiritual trauma from religious experiences. I also specialize in treating those who have experienced a traumatic event in their lives using a trauma focused approach to help begin the process of healing. Open to working with children/adolescents 10 years and older.

I am integrative in my approach to therapy and work with female clients ages 12 and older who are dealing with a wide variety of issues. My approach encompasses care of the body, mind, and spirit. I have been working in the mental health field for 26 years and have been a professional counselor for 18 years. I was drawn to the field of counseling after taking a psychology class in high school and dealing with anxiety and depression myself over the years. I wanted to be able to help people overcome their challenges so that they could lead productive and happy lives. I have worked in psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, and private practice. Working in hospitals and residential treatment settings afforded me the opportunity to meet and work with clients struggling with a wide range of issues. In addition to being a professional counselor, I am also board-certified in telemental health, and have earned certification as a master addiction counselor.

My approach to therapy is hope-focused and client-centered. More often than not, clients hold the answers to their questions within themselves, and my role is to facilitate the exploration and growth process towards healing and peace. I tend to be pretty straight-forward and pragmatic, and I appreciate the privilege of being allowed to walk alongside my clients through life's challenges and difficulties. My strongest skills lie in working with anxiety, depression, communication, and life transitions/changes.

I graduated from the University of South Dakota with my Master of Social Work degree. Throughout my career I have enjoyed working with a variety of clients and have experience with children, adolescents and adults in group, couples and individual therapy. My career has given me the opportunity to work in both inpatient and outpatient settings along with providing telehealth therapy services to individuals across SD. I certified in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) and have provided DBT in individual and group format. I work with clients on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, emotional intensity, bipolar disorder, trauma, and grief. I also have experience working with couples and individuals to address interpersonal difficulties. The most rewarding part of therapy for me is helping clients realize their own strengths and capacity to make healthy changes in their lives. I look forward to working with you to improve your overall well-being and reach your goals.
