My Approach
Three words which describe my therapeutic style are: understanding , non-judgmental, and compassionate. My approach is based on the belief that therapy is a partnership where the goal is for the client to understand their needs while appreciating their strengths. I seek to help others find a sense of ease through self-discovery in order to help them live their best lives.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in sports, media and live events, I also did a lot of philanthropy work for nonprofits like Bears Care and Housing Opportunities for Women (HOW). I began to feel burned out from sitting in meetings and composing proposals and reports behind my desk for 60 hours a week. I wondered about the true impact of my work. I wanted deeper human connection and took the leap to get my masters’ degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling specializing in Counseling Psychology. I then went on for my doctorate in DCES Counselor Education and Supervision, There was no turning back once I found my calling! I've been influenced in my therapy career by great mentors from training, my therapists, and contemporary thought leaders/practitioners. I incorporate Jon Kabat-Zinn's research on mindfulness, Brene Brown's work on vulnerability as courage, and Gottman and Esther Perel's insights on family and partner relationships to my therapeutic work.
