About Me: In addition to being a therapist, I am a wife and a mom. Those two roles are the most important roles I hold in my life. My children range in age from 21 to 1, so I’ve been through the gamut of child development (and challenges). I’m so thankful to have been given the opportunity to guide my children through life and, though it hasn’t been perfect, I have learned a lot along the way. I was born and raised in the Portland-metro area of Oregon, so in typical Pacific Northwest fashion, I find the outdoors soothing and awe-inspiring. From beaches to mountains and forests, our outdoors in this area are unmatched. I’m a huge proponent of spending time in nature, and believe that doing so is foundational to health and happiness. Fresh air and sunshine (when we get it) can help give us a different perspective and see things in a new light. I also enjoy traveling and seeing the unique landscapes and offerings of other cities, states, and countries. Hawaii is definitely my favorite escape, but I’ve also enjoyed my time in New Orleans and San Francisco. I love sports and my husband and I always try to take in a baseball game or other sporting event during our travels. My daughter attends Oregon State so Beavers baseball and football are always on our list of games to watch. Me as a Therapist: I believe that people have a natural desire for health, happiness and life satisfaction. However, several factors often interfere with our ability to achieve these things. Biological differences that make some people more prone to depression, anxiety, or unhelpful stress responses, personal and societal expectations that are often difficult or impossible to attain, thinking patterns instilled in us from childhood, and a number of personal experiences can all come together to create a life where something is missing or “off.” I have experience with adolescents and adults facing life transitions, relationship and work stress, anxiety, depression, and disordered eating. I am passionate about improving communication, increasing emotional understanding, and examining thinking processes. As a counselor, I use a nonjudgmental approach with unconditional positive regard to create a truly safe space—a place where you can explore who you are now, who you want to be, and how to bridge the gap between those two visions of yourself. Together, we explore the obstacles in the way of your growth and identify ways to overcome them. We examine long held thought patterns and behaviors to determine which are serving you well and which could benefit from restructuring. We dive deep into emotions and uncover the messages behind them so we can loosen their power and develop tools to manage them. The key to successful counseling, in my experience, is developing a strong therapeutic relationship where any and everything can be shared openly. Counseling is your time and your space, so the focus is fully on you and the goals you want to achieve. Together, we can overcome challenges and help you discover and build a life that you love. Open to working with adolescents ages 14 and older.
