My name is Robert m Cox, and I am an experienced professional counselor for adults and couples affected by traumatic experiences, substance use, chronic stress, and fighting to be heard. I have training and lived experience as a neurodivergent human. My approach is direct, intuitive, and calm. Through nonjudgmental and reflective listening, I want to understand your life and help you find a path into a self-affirmative future. I practice from a humanistic, trauma-informed perspective that seeks to improve stress management skills using compassionate, evidence-based practices. Another of my interests is the use of therapeutic horticulture and the healing aspects of nature. I earned my master's degree from Appalachian State University in 1998 and my doctorate from The University of Memphis in 2016. My counseling licenses include both an LCMHC and LCAS in NC, as well as an LPC-MHSP-S in TN. Work experience includes medical, prison, crisis intervention, and university settings.
