I believe clients have a wealth of information and knowhow on how to solve their own problems but have become stuck for one reason or another. I meet the client wherever they find themselves and build from there. The work in sessions is gradual and in step with the client. In every session, beginning in the first session, goals will be set and the client, together with the therapist, will work towards those goals through exercises. Examples used in session are often drawn from client’s personal experiences on overcoming past difficulties and hardships, positively. Mindfulness and meditation will be part of some or all sessions. If the client is willing to work on past traumas, anxieties and phobias, Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing or EMDR will be offered. Cognitive Behavior Therapy or CBT and its exercises will be part of all or some sessions.

I provide telehealth services to folks ages 13 and up. Before working completely remotely, I worked in a variety of settings including sexual violence organizations, schools, children's mental health agencies, and intensive outpatient settings. The areas of concern I most often address include anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem, attachment wounds, and parenting strategies. I strive to provide a client-centered and non-judgmental approach to therapy to explore how clients’ past experiences impact their present-day behaviors and functioning. I utilize interventions from EMDR, yoga, and mindfulness to create increased awareness of one’s body sensations, especially relating to emotions and stress responses. I support clients in connecting with their authentic selves to feel fulfilled in their daily lives. Outside of work, I love traveling, hiking, and camping with my family. As a former college swimmer, I love staying active however I can, most often taking walks with my dog.

My goal as a therapist is to assist you in moving forward… one step at a time. As a Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor for nearly twenty years, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families to collaborate on the healing journey towards health and wellness. Wherever you are on your journey, I will meet you where you are at, and assist you in moving forward, a step at a time. A quote I’ve used personally and professionally in my private practice is: “There is pain in change. There is pain in remaining the same. Choose the one that moves you forward” (Earnie Larson). As a lifelong learner, I have advanced certificates and trainings which include: Mediation, Sex Therapy, Discernment Counseling, Clinical Trauma Specialist, EMDR, Brainspotting, and Military Family Life Consulting. Prepare/Enrich is a premarital/marital assessment, as well as the Gottman Relationship Checkup. I have training in the Gottman Method and have studied with Esther Perel. I’ve also just completed my PhD in Organizational Psychology and have worked as a coach and a consultant for executives and business owners. Open to working with adolescents 14 years and older.

On the outside, you have the perfect life. You overcame many obstacles to get to where you are today. You have a good job. Money doesn’t seem to be a problem. You have a beautiful family. Others say you’re dependable, hard-working, and you get stuff done. On the inside, you struggle with “what-ifs”, perfectionism, regrets, and over-thinking. Instead of feeling fulfillment and satisfaction, you find yourself entangled with frustration, irritability. You set higher standards for yourself than anyone expects. Then, you fall into the “guilt spiral” when there’s a risk of not meeting those standards. Worse, others seem oblivious to your struggles so you feel invisible and alone with your troubles. Lately, you’ve been noticing an increase in frustration. Sometimes you snap at others without meaning to. You find yourself falling into unhealthy habits & neglecting self-care. Procrastination and avoidance are starting to show up in your day more frequently. You feel overwhelmed, unfulfilled, and exhausted. I specialize in helping high achievers find authentic peace and fulfillment so that you finally create a life you respect and enjoy. I help you remember that you are MORE than a collection of problems, mistakes, and missed opportunities. I use proven, evidence-based therapies to help you find a clear path to your best self so that you can be fully present in your work and with the ones you love. You’ve been stuck in this dark place long enough. Book an appointment today so we can start the journey back to your best self.

I’m fortunate to have had over a decade of experience with the best job in the world. Becoming a therapist was a long and winding road for me and I previously worked in academic research and other fields before finding my life’s work. I greatly enjoy working with people whose paths may also not be “traditional” or who find themselves at a crossroads in life. I work primarily from an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) framework and love how it recognizes that while there are circumstances and losses in life we can’t change, tuning into our values, and turning “toward” rather than “away” from our challenges can help us live a life of which we are proud. I also work with disability identity and chronic illness concerns. When I’m not working, I love spending time with my loved ones (including the world’s most adorable cockapoo), studying (I’m a lifelong learner and just started work on a PhD), and engaging in all sorts of nerdy and artsy activities. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and having the privilege of walking alongside you as you do this meaningful work.

Hello! My name is Ryan Gay, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. I provide virtual individual therapy sessions for adults. Many people I work with are wanting a place to process challenges in their life. I strive to be supportive and nonjudgmental in working with people on the challenges they are facing. My approach to therapy is to work collaboratively with people, and explore both insights into the topics they discuss, and coping skills that may be helpful for them. While I like to be eclectic in theoretical approaches, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment therapy often. I typically work with people who experience difficult thoughts, feelings, and circumstances in their life. This can impact one's ability to function at their best. I enjoy helping people find ways to increase awareness and mindfulness in their life, and to take action steps based on what is important to them. My goal is to have a therapy style that is kind, comfortable, and personable. I want the people I work with to have a safe space, and to feel free to talk about anything they would like. I invite you to reach out to me if you would like to schedule an appointment or have any questions. Take care.
