In my work as a therapist I have focused on helping adults cope with anxiety, depression, and managing through times of life transition. I often find it most helpful to work as a team with my client to find solutions that will help pave the way to an improved quality of life. I use cognitive behavioral and strengths based treatment perspectives, and seek to help people identify their own strengths, finding ways to use them. Through the process of self-reflection, facilitated by a therapist, people become reacquainted with their own skills, strengths and priorities, so that they can effectively employ these. I also see therapy as a way to find healing and as a learning and personal growth process.

I believe clients have a wealth of information and knowhow on how to solve their own problems but have become stuck for one reason or another. I meet the client wherever they find themselves and build from there. The work in sessions is gradual and in step with the client. In every session, beginning in the first session, goals will be set and the client, together with the therapist, will work towards those goals through exercises. Examples used in session are often drawn from client’s personal experiences on overcoming past difficulties and hardships, positively. Mindfulness and meditation will be part of some or all sessions. If the client is willing to work on past traumas, anxieties and phobias, Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing or EMDR will be offered. Cognitive Behavior Therapy or CBT and its exercises will be part of all or some sessions.

As a PTSD survivor and a bereaved mother, I understand personally and professionally the connection between positive, validating support and the healing process. Building a rapport and therapeutic alliance is the most important part of all counseling relationships. I have extensive training and experience in the areas of trauma and grief techniques and I will use an emotionally safe, non judgmental approach to guide you on your journey towards healing. I have years of experience with very different populations, including family systems, victims of violent crimes, grief and loss, and trauma and PTSD. I focus on building our rapport at first so I can help create an environment where you feel safe. My greatest strengths, as I have been told by past clients, are my ability to be "real" with my clients, my use of humor, my shared personal experiences, and my years of experience in the field.

I am a licensed professional counselor, working in mental health since 2017. I work with adolescents and adults who suffer from trauma or identity issues looking to eliminate suicidal thoughts and reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts and/or hallucinations. I help clients understand their symptoms and learn methods of coping. I also encourage clients to create meaning for their experiences and grow as a result. I have a passion for understanding and integrating the role of spirituality in one's mental well-being. I have studied and have basic knowledge of various religious and spiritual contexts so as to better assist clients according to their beliefs and maintain ethical guidelines. I have successfully helped counseling clients assign meaning to negative thought patterns and even psychosis, then working with them to manage their symptoms according to their beliefs. The youngest I am willing to treat is 12 years old.
